CHANAN REIFEN
Marriage and Family Therapist- Limited Permit
Understanding ourselves is essential for cultivating self-compassion and acceptance, which are foundational to living a more vibrant and fulfilling life. However, the journey of self-discovery and unraveling the layers of our identities can be daunting, whether undertaken independently or within the context of a relationship. In my therapeutic practice, I aim to create an environment that fosters curiosity, vulnerability, and growth.
As someone who has lived between cultures for most of my life, I am especially interested in exploring the unconscious cultural and familial patterns that influence our behaviors and relationships. Originally from Tel Aviv, I've lived and worked in many multicultural contexts, including Toronto, London, and Milan. I am also fluent in three languages – English, Hebrew, Italian – which enhances my ability to connect with diverse clientele. My background includes more than a decade in the fashion industry and experience as a military medic. These roles have equipped me with a profound understanding of human resilience and the complexities of personal narratives.
My path to becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist was sparked during the COVID-19 pandemic, –a time that prompted many, including myself, to seek more impactful and fulfilling career paths. I am pursuing my degree at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. In addition to my therapeutic training, I continue to work in fashion as an instructor at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). I have a particular interest in working with couples and individuals within the LGBTQ+ community, as well as those who are navigating relationships or marriage across different cultures. By delving into these unique layers of identity, I aim to help individuals uncover deeper insights and forge authentic connections with themselves and others.
