IFFAT IBRAHIM
Mental Health Counselor - Limited Permit
There are moments in life when we’re called to separate from the herd—sometimes by choice, often by circumstance. My journey into becoming a therapist is rooted in one of those moments: of being othered—set apart from cultural norms, from peers, from the expected path. That early rupture became a portal inward—into my body, into reflection, into healing.
As a cisgender South Asian woman, my lived experience shapes every aspect of my work. I know the pain and power of navigating expectations, identity, and spiritual searching. I also know how healing it is to feel seen—not only for your struggles, but for your fullness. These intersections fuel my passion for culturally safe, attuned, and inclusive therapy.
I’m a fun, non-conforming, intuitive therapist. I show up authentically and invite you to do the same. My approach to therapy is anti-oppressive, relational and trauma-informed — drawing from psychodynamic theory, somatic work, and spiritual frameworks. I’m a certified yoga teacher, meditation practitioner, and trained in Mindful Self-Compassion. I help clients navigate life transitions, grief, identity and career changes; the effects of childhood trauma; chronic illness and the mind-body connection; and experiences of living between cultures. I work with both couples and individuals navigating relationships, intimacy, sexuality, and embodiment. I tend to work with creatives and seekers; queer and BIPOC clients.
I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness from NYU and a three-year postgraduate diploma accredited by the British Association of Counselling Professionals and am credentialed to practice in both New York and the UK. My path has been anything but linear—I have an undergraduate degree in Business from the University of Toronto and spent years in the corporate and wellness worlds. I bring the fullness of that experience into the therapy room.
