THEO RABKE
Mental Health Counselor - Limited Permit

I have an academic background studying Consciousness and Altered States, primarily through the lens of psychoanalytic theory and Buddhist philosophy. My specialization lies in helping individuals with existential and spiritual concerns, particularly those experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, creative blocks, and challenges related to substance use.

I obtained my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Hunter College and my Bachelor’s degree in Consciousness and Altered States from NYU. Additionally, I have received training in Trauma-Focused CBT and Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration.

Before joining Atrium, I gained experience in psychodynamic work with adults at a private practice in Brooklyn. I also worked with adolescents and their caretakers in the Trauma-Focused Foster Care program at the New York Foundling. I am also a teaching assistant for several courses in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Studies

department at NYU's Grossman School of Medicine, where I have lectured on the Ethics and Economics of Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy.

My insight-oriented approach to therapy focuses on bringing the machinations of our unconscious minds into conscious awareness. Together, we cultivate insights about the patterns that underlie our thoughts, feelings, relationships, and behaviors. This process involves analyzing symptoms, dreams, behaviors, and the therapeutic relationship itself. I draw from psychoanalytic theory and depth psychology to help clients gain a deeper understanding of their experience in the world, ultimately leading to a more authentic, meaningful, and fulfilling life. While I do not directly provide access to psychedelics or psychedelic-assisted therapy, I do offer harm reduction and integration sessions for individuals who have encountered mystical experiences—whether through psychedelic medicines, meditation, spiritual practice, or other means.
